      My new book, A Friend Is a Gift You Give Yourself, is a screwball noir that throws a mob widow and her angsty granddaughter together with a one-time Golden Age porn star, putting them on the lam from trouble. It was an especially fun book to write because I got to call up a whole history of movies and books (and even music) that I love and am.
